Cleaning Up for Good

Seventh Generation is an all green company. It sells household products, the main ones being cleaners.
These include: dish soap, laundry detergent, shower cleaner, tile cleaner, feminine products, and more.

Seventh Generation has been certified by:

  • Leaping Bunny
  • PETA Animal Treatment Assessment
  • Green American Seal of Approval- Gold Level
  • B Corporation
  • EPA Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative- Champions
  • GRI Sustainability Reporting

The company's mission is:
"To Inspire a consumer revolution that nurtures the health of the next seven generations."

You can read more in depth about their mission on their website here.
This is a company that is proud and passionate of the work they are doing in making a difference in our world; and the future of our world.

Seventh Generation has four aspirations (directly from their website):
  • Nurture Nature- "We care today for the next seven generations of tomorrow."
  • Transform Commerce- "We champion honesty, responsibility, and radical transparency in commerce."
  • Enhance Health- "We enhance health through education, activism, and innovation."
  • Build Communities- "We advance social justice and equality to unleash human potential."

From personal use, I can testify that these cleaners work just as well, if not better than competing brands that use chemicals and harsh toxins in their products.  The best part? The price is not outrageous, like I originally anticipated. From what I have found is that Seventh Generation is priced lower than other dish detergents, laundry detergents, and feminine products, but remains a higher price than non-name brand cleaners. The price being in the middle of the competition, also while being green, is good enough for me! The packaging may come off as bland, but the message is strong. No more toxins. A better tomorrow.

The four main goals that Seventh Generation wants to meet by 2020 are as follows:
  • Create and use energy sustainability
  • Produce zero waste
  • Source sustainably
  • Decrease carbon footprint
They will use less energy and decrease our carbon footprint by encouraging their consumers to wash all of their laundry with only cold water.  In order to produce zero waste, all of their products and it's packaging will be completely biodegradable and/or recyclable. To become source sustainable "all agricultural materials certified sustainable by a credible third party". While all of this is better for the environment, our own health (along with the Earth's) is of great importance. Seventh Generation products do not use toxins, are free of chronic toxicants, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as other cleaning supplies may not follow these precautions.
